Frequently asked questions
The top pre-launch questions about Threadline — privacy, AI accuracy, what we can and can't touch in Gmail, billing, and what to expect before you connect your inbox.
How does Threadline handle my email data?
Threadline reads your Gmail only to triage, draft, and schedule on the threads that need it. We send the relevant thread snippets to our model provider to generate outputs, and we do not sell, share, or surface your email content to anyone else. No human reviews your inbox, model providers are contractually bound not to train on your data, and you can delete your account at any time from Settings — when you do, all associated Threadline data is erased.
How does voice training work and how does Threadline learn my writing style?
Voice training happens in the Train view: open a thread, mark it as a good or bad example of your style, and optionally leave a short note about why. Threadline treats those labelled examples as ground truth when generating your next draft — the more examples you provide, the tighter the match. Edits you make to AI drafts before sending also feed back into your style profile automatically. Over time the model learns your sentence length, formality level, preferred greetings, and how you handle different types of requests. You can reset your profile or remove specific examples at any time from Settings.
Why use Threadline rules instead of Gmail built-in filters?
Gmail filters match on fixed criteria — sender address, subject keywords, label names — and require you to translate your intent into Boolean syntax. Threadline rules are written in plain English ("skip anything that looks like a newsletter", "flag threads where someone is waiting on a decision from me") and apply AI understanding to the full thread context, not just header fields. The two approaches are complementary: keep Gmail filters for deterministic routing you already have set up, and use Threadline rules for the nuanced, context-dependent sorting that filters cannot express. Changes to Threadline rules take effect on the next sync without touching your Gmail filter list.
How does billing work?
Threadline offers three tiers — Free, Pro, and Team. Pro and Team can be billed monthly or annually (the toggle on the pricing page lets you pick). The annual option is cheaper per month; the monthly option is more flexible. You plan status is refreshed from the payment provider in Settings → Billing. Hosted cancellation controls appear there when available; a local status change must not be treated as stopping provider billing. See the full tier comparison at /pricing.
What can Threadline not do inside Gmail?
Threadline cannot permanently delete messages, cannot empty your Trash or Spam, and cannot grant or revoke access to your account on your behalf. It does not read attachments beyond extracting plain-text content where the email client exposes it, and it cannot access Google Drive, Calendar, or other Google Workspace products — only Gmail. Threadline never sends a message without you clicking Send in the app. If you want to stop Threadline from accessing new mail entirely, revoke the OAuth grant from your Google Account → Security → Third-party apps page; Threadline stops syncing immediately.
